My grandfather has a shoebox that contains about a hundred or so photographs from World War II. Before he received the scrapbook for Christmas, he would just pull out the old, yellowing pictures and show them to people. Now, I’m carefully placing them between white photo corner holders so that nothing else can happen to them while he shows them off.
Every time I put one in God reminds me how lucky I am and how thankful I should be. Today, I am thankful for them winning the war. Grandpa explained two sets of pictures. One set was of a graveyard in Guam filled with white crosses mimicking the National Cemetery. The second set was of a POW camp filled with Japanese soldiers. Grandpa explained that instead of holding the U.S. soldiers as POWs, the executed them.
I am lucky and very thankful that they won the war. I probably wouldn’t have been born otherwise….

What are you doing up at 1:55 a.m.? Are you a night owl? I’m up because I’ve had heart burn since about 1:30 a.m. Friday. Thought I’d get a long nights sleep so I went to bed at 7:30 p.m. Between husband, two cats and increasing heart burn I’m up eating Greek yogurt, which is quite good, and responding to you Blogging about your Grandpa and his fighting to perserve our Freedom here in the U.S.A. Thank you, Laura’s Grandpa, you and many brave men and women throughout history have fought for our freedom. And the battle goes on. I pray for an end of war. It would be nice to say Thank You to all our Service people and Welcome Home. A lot of today has been spent with you Laura. I’ve been playing with Little Women & Company and looking at old pictures from your mom. Wish I lived closer. I’ll be checking in again, soon. Carole
